What to do on a Long weekend in San Diego

Balboa Park, San Diego

What to do on a long weekend in sunny SoCal?

Well you could hit some hiking trails in Griffith park, or maybe even the beach following a few bars in Los Angeles or possibly head south to Huntington Beach for an awesome bonfire. Hey, you can even make your way down to San Diego. That seems to be my go-to spot for the past year. If you’re interested in my outfit details, check out my style post of what I wore in SD.

San Diego has a lot to do in such a small radius.

There’s beautiful beaches, parks and hiking trails, awesome breweries and most of all, amazing food! Can anyone say ittis? Haha. Don’t lie, we’ve all been there  So when you have a few short days to pile on as much as you can, where do you go and what do you choose? Well I would suggest going with you favorite activities and doing at least one activity you cannot do or do not have near home. My choice for my long Fourth of July weekend? Beaches, food, baseball game, bars, Balboa park and most importantly, sleep.

Coronado Beach is one of the closest beaches to downtown San Diego.

It gives some Redondo Beach and Huntington Beach vibes all put together. The sand is white and very refined, the view is amazing and the sun rays, sun kissed! Clearly because I came back to LA with a serious tan! Hello MAC C7  make up is so darn expensive. You get a tan and you have to replace all of your bases. But moving on… Don’t be surprised if you see a lot of people at the beach. Keep walking North or South and you will find yourself a nice spot. If you have some furry friends with you, try heading North as you will hit the dog beach- park. Of course, it is more of a park near the beach than an actual beach for dogs. But who says your furry friend can’t experience the ocean water?  That’s right.. The signs up on the beach   please do so at your own risk!

If you like piña coladas…

When I am in San Diego I try to catch a Baseball game. Dodger vs. Padres to be exact.

Of course I have been to a Padres vs. another team however, I am a Los Angeles girl and a true Dodgers fan 😀 How can I not aim to watch my team. Luckily the Dodgers have been kicking butt the past few weeks and we won that particular game If you do happen to visit Petco Park, you must ANY of their food. I must admit they have such a huge selection and I am fairly jealous because they put Dodger Stadium food to shame (don’t tell any SD resident I said that). If you don’t know where to start, give their tri-tip nachos from Seaside Market a try.

On our way to our seats. Yes we were lost.

If you are a beer enthusiast, you will love all the breweries in San Diego.

On our last day in SD, we decided to hit up a new spot, The Resident Brewing Company located on Fourth which also happens to neighbor and serve food from The Local Eatery Hole. I was sooo in love the branding and logo design. I thought it was simply genuis. Aside the aesthetics, they have a very interesting coconut flavored beer that actually tasted like coconut however, that flavor just wasn’t for me. Instead I opted for the Perky Blonde  a pale ale that was very refreshing. We arrived just in time for happy hour and their food from The Local was simply bomb! Brisket poutine, small ass nachos, street fries and sweet & spicy wings (all happy hour size) were delicious and gone within minutes of being served. Their local brewed beer all looked amazing but we didn’t have enough time for them all. I will definitely be paying The Resident another visit.

Even if you are in a rush to head home, you must stop by Balboa Park.

After grabbing a few beers and a bite to eat at The Resident, we were to head back home when our plans changed. We had a few extra hours to kill in San Diego before we had to meet a few friends in Orange County. We decided to make the short drive to Balboa Park and take in the amazing views and soak in the sun. The highlight could have been the amazing (or so I think) Japanese Garden. We caught a glimpse of it over a bridge but the time slots were not working for us, maybe next time. We proceeded to head to the Botanical Garden building which housed an arboretum with beautiful succulents, ferns, orchids and even a small touch and sniff garden where you put your knowledge and senses to the test. Simply the best area for photos, for good reason
