how i met your- i mean, how i got engaged

So Kids, here is the story on how your fellow blogger got engaged! 😏 Haha I know it has been a very very long time since my engagement ( June 22, 2019). So now that I am sorta used to the idea of having a fiancé, I can now share our engagement story. ❤️

the days leading up to our engagement

So let’s start with the fact that I KNEW! Haha I knew it was coming sometime this year. I knew it was coming the days leading up to our engagement. But did I know at that very moment? No. It was the very last thing on my mind.

a little back story …

Let’s start by talking about how JD really did try to surprise me. He told all my closest friends about his plans to propose and he even tried to coordinate with my friend Vickie to come by and take secret photos of us. However, he is not one bit subtle at all 😂 and thats okay, I still love him.

At the beginning of June, JD asked if we had plans on the 22nd. For those who don’t know me, My calendar is everything. I add all my plans from lunch dates to chores and payments ect. I responded no and he said he wanted to save the date and do something. Possibly head to Laguna Beach and take some Instagram worthy photos. My reaction to his request was, “What the hell. Why?”. In my head, it is very odd for JD to ask to plan a day at the beach. Even more so, to plan a photoshoot for “Instagram photos”. First of all, he hates taking photos with me😂. He also knows I hardly ever ask him to take photos for me. Fishy! But I let it go and didn’t give it much thought.

Later that month, I brought up the topic to some friends (Linda & Vickie). I mentioned how it seemed plausible that JD was planning a proposal. Little did I know, they already knew and soon alerted JD about my suspicions. On a totally unrelated topic (or so I thought), the girls and I had a nail date planned. Unbeknownst to me, JD, Linda and Vickie had all the lies planned out. They created this story about a date Vickie was going on Saturday night and the reason why she wanted her nails done. In reality, Vickie really did go on a date but she went before. This was probably the only time I was completely clueless because I did not make the connection between the two totally related situations. Whoops.

our engagement story begins..

The morning of June 22, 2019 came and we had our plans to go to Laguna Beach. As JD described, a “photoshoot for IG” but I honestly wasn’t feeling it that morning. The day was very gloomy and I just didn’t have a cute outfit to frolic on the beach for Instagram photos. Since the day looked gloomy, JD kept changing his mind on whether we should go to the beach. Clearly, he wanted nice weather for our proposal, but I didn’t actually think about this. I wanted to go to the beach whether it was hot or cold. So we ended up going 🙃.. Whoops!

the perfect location, laguna beach

To our surprise, the weather in Laguna Beach was actually perfect. It was warm and sunny but not overly humid or hot. Ya know what I mean? We found free parking immediately and things were looking great. We made our way to The Deck, put our name down and grabbed a drink. I swear this day was perfect because we were seated in 40 quick minutes (the wait time after we arrived was about 2 hours) and we got the best table, right on the edge, with the most amazing view of Laguna Beach.

The Deck is pretty amazing. Not only was it our stop right before getting engaged, but the ambiance is great, drinks are delicious and the view is drop dead gorgeous. A must visit if you’re in the area.

moments leading up to our proposal…

After our late lunch/early dinner, we made our way back to the car to grab my jacket. I knew I was going to get cold walking on the beach but JD also made an excuse about needing his portable charger. I thought it was oddsince he recently changed to an Android and constantly was bragging about his battery life. But I didn’t give it much thought. Little did I know this is when he was grabbing the ring from his car trunk. Sneaky! We then made our way to the beach deck and JD was insisting to walk towards the secluded cove area. I was being impatient and kept saying no. Oops. 😅 Again, the thought ” I am getting engaged” did not cross my mind at the time.

As we begin to walk, we move towards the empty beach area and spot a couple making out under a sun tent. We thought it was funny since there were a lot of onlookers and children. Finally we stop, I admire the view and start taking selfies. The sun was setting and I didn’t want to miss the perfect moment. Turns out, neither did JD 🥰.

the proposal

I quickly start taking selfies with the sunset on the horizon. I then hear him make a comment, “wait until you see it”. At first, I thought he was referring to another couple displaying heavy PDA. I took a look at my photos and didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. But then I saw it. I saw the ring, my ring, on his finger in my photo. *cue the tears* With a huge smile on his face, JD asks if I saw it. I nod my head as I turn around to look at him. That was the moment when he got on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?”. Internally I was screaming!

As I held my hands to my face trying to cover my lips from doing that weird ugly cry smile, I nodded my head and said yes! JD smiled, put the ring on my finger and we kissed. Suddenly, we hear yells from nearby onlookers from a balcony overlooking the beach; they witnessed our proposal and had a front row view. Low key, if anyone reading this captured it on video send it to me lol 😝

let’s play, can you spot the ring?

i’m engaged! what’s happened since then..

Since that beautiful evening in Laguna Beach, it has been such a whirlwind. I have told this story so many times over and over again. There has also been numerous questions I have no answer to LOL. The date, the venue, my color scheme, will the food be vegan? “I just got engaged” has been my answer to practically everything. One thing is certain, I have my wedding hashtag LOL. The most important detail right?😆But really, we both are very happy to be engaged and to have this wonderful married life ahead of us.

The wedding planning has actually started. It took me about a month and a half to wrap my head around being engaged. It then took another half month to research and list possible venues and dates with JD. Turns out, my family has a lot of restrictions on dates. After needing much persuasion, JD and I are happy to announce our date is set for September 5th, 2020 and our ceremony will take place at Wayferers Chapel in Palos Verdes 💖. I am sooo happy JD agreed on this location because I fell in love with it at first sight! It took a while, but in the end he agreed.
