Vegan Challenge | OMG I’m Going Vegan!

Welcome to my Vegan Challenge

Here we are day numero uno of my Vegan Challenge! I’m excited, nervous and ready for this challenge. I am determined but also scared!

This vegan challenge series is brought to you by many months of starting and quitting different types of diets in order to become healthier and lose unwanted weight. The past year has been a bit rough for my body; I am the heaviest I have ever been in my adult life. Most of the weight gain can be attributed to bad eating habits, low activity and a 9-5 desk job. Everyone’s reason for going vegan is different but here are mine.

So Why Are You Going Vegan?

I have tried so many diets from eating no carbs, Keto diet, high protein- low carbs, meal replacements, calorie counting, diet teas and Herbal Life. UGH! Either it works for a while and then I don’t see further results or it gets worse and I gain more weight. I finally had enough and was determine to make some serious changes. Veganism has been very intriguing to me for quite some time and I thought; what’s a better way to see if this lifestyle is for me than to give it a try and challenge myself.

I will not lie, I did make a slow transition into my vegan challenge. First and foremost lets address the fact that I do not eat any seafood or shellfish. This has been a thing since I can remember. It might’ve all started when I was about 9 years old and choked on scrambled eggs with full sized charrales (I think they are like sardines??). Ouch, it was very traumatizing. During the summer I did take a chance on salmon and started to eat it because the doctor said I needed more Vitamin D; that didn’t last very long. I am now on Vitamin D pills due to my deficiency.

Early this year I also consumed so much chicken I grew tired of it. I had made it my main source of protein that I wanted nothing to do with it anymore. I completely cut it out and replaced it with turkey and tofu. That’s when I finally decided that I should try to push myself towards to be more healthy route and since I was technically a vegetarian on and off, I thought about going plat-based. The idea was kinda scary given that a lot of the food i still hate did contain dairy, but I thought that was the whole point. To be more self conscious about the food I ate and to challenge myself. So I made the jump.

Veganism for 22 Days.

I will be undergoing a full Vegan diet (had to be clear that it will only be for the food I eat) for 22 consecutive days. But why that random number? Well I’m glad you asked because honestly, I saw other people doing 22 days vegan challenge, so then I decided to do 22 days vegan challenge (mean girls reference haha).  I decided to start with a plant-based aka vegan challenge first because a true vegan (or strict vegan) means not consuming and using products that contain animal ingredients, by products or made by animals.

My vegan challenge will test my body, mind and soul to stop the consumption of animal products and byproducts.

Anyone that knows me will tell you I love animals and more specifically dogs. I try not to talk about it, but the food industry is quite harsh and I finally decided to make an adult decision and make a change starting with myself. If I can stop consuming animal products for even a month, I will feel accomplished at the end of my 22 days. It will be extremely challenging and it will probably suck, but I know I can make it through. Follow me to the deep end! Send positive thoughts and good vibes!
